Woman loses pool injury compensation claim

A woman who was injured after diving into a friend’s swimming pool in 2006 has lost her £6million damages claim, reports the BBC.

Kylie Grimes was 18 when she attended a party at a friend’s house. She was left paralysed after she dived into the swimming pool and hit her head on the bottom, breaking a vertebra in her neck.

Ms Grimes claimed that the home owner, David Hawkins, who was away at the time of his daughter’s party, was negligent by not taking steps to prevent the party guests from using the pool. The judge however disagreed, saying that the pool was “not unsafe for diving,” and that Mr Hawkins was not obliged to have put the pool out of bounds.
