A construction worker from Edinburgh has been awarded compensation worth several million pounds after he was injured on a hospital building site in Newcastle in 2006, reports the Scotsman.
The 38-year-old fell from an unsecured working platform on the sixth floor of the hospital and sustained severe injuries to his head and legs. He still faces the possible amputation of both lower legs, and will require care for the rest of his life.
The insurers of the construction firm have agreed to pay damages consisting of an initial lump sum of £2 million and an annual payment of £65,000 from the age of 45. This payment will rise to £150,000 a year after he reaches retirement age.
