Custody officer awarded compensation after bite

A former custody officer at Gatwick airport has been awarded over £100,000 compensation after she was bitten on the face by an HIV infected asylum seeker, reports the BBC.

The asylum seeker had carried out a similar attack on another custody officer only days before, however Ms. Ennis had not been made aware of this.

The attack left her with a six month wait to find out whether she had been cross infected with HIV, and she needed three operations on her face.

Ms. Ennis was not able to return to work after the attack, and was awarded the money in an out-of-court settlement.
