The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health's (IOSH) No Time to Lose occupational cancer campaign has continued to gather support, this time from the Al Hammadi Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Only launched late in 2015, currently in excess of than 50 businesses and more than 100 organisations have thrown their support behind the crucial campaign, which is designed to tackle occupational cancer through raising awareness and offering free practical materials to help organisations.
Said materials identify five risk factors for occupational cancer:
- Diesel engine exhaust emissions;
- Solar radiation;
- Asbestos;
- Silica dust; and
- Shift work.
Occupations cancer, which is contracted at work, kills an estimated 666,000 people throughout the worldwide each year.
The Al Hammadi Hospital's two sites with another on the way in Riyadh, has made a pledge meaning it will take various steps, which includes assessing whether any of their work activities may lead to occupational cancer, and develop and deliver prevention strategies in the workplace.
Commenting, hospital Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Saleh Al Hammadi. stated:
"We in Al Hammadi Hospital whole-heartedly support the noble initiative taken by IOSH in spearheading and promoting awareness regarding workplace cancer worldwide.
"IOSH's No Time to Lose campaign focuses on a vital health and safety issue that affects the backbone of our organisation - the workforce. Protecting our employees against occupational health and safety risk, and in this case occupational cancer, is an obligation and a responsibility that should not be taken lightly.
"We hereby express our commitment in supporting this campaign and we will endeavour to provide a safe and healthy environment for our members as far as it is reasonably practicable."
