Road safety progress in the European Union has stagnated for the last four years, according to a new report from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC).  

Pedestrians now make up a quarter of all deaths on the UK’s roads, ahead of motorcyclists or cyclists, according to new analysis by road safety charity IAM RoadSmart. Only car occupants have a worse record. 

The European Commission has published the third element of its ‘Europe on the Move’ strategy, in which it calls for the mandatory installation of a range of safety features on new cars sold in Europe, reports the RAC Foundation. 

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) has called for changes to the system of compensation in England and Wales for bereaved families following an accident at work, adding that it should follow the system in operation in Scotland. 

There has been a fall of around 2% in the number of people losing their lives on EU roads in 2017, according to preliminary statistics released by the European Commission. This is apparently the second year in a row to see a fall in fatality numbers.
